Gloria, in excelsis deo!!

Here she is in all her corporate, franchise glory. Who would've thought it would come to this? That I would sell my soul to the coffee devil? [Smile] So, can I take your order? Would you like that in large? Can I ask your first name for the order? Posted by Picasa

I'm B*sy

I once heard it said that "Busy people are never too busy to tell you how busy they are". At that time I vowed to never use the word again. So, I feel a little stressed at the short amounts of time I have these days. It's just the intensity of learning ALL new information every minute of the day for a month - and then being assessed on it. What do I care about the Food Safety Legislation of 1993?

What makes everything seem worse is that we’ve had two interstate guests in the last week and one of them I didn’t even lay eyes on because of my unsocialable hours. Hi Rob Cain! Hi Geoff Westlake!

I’m in the phase of transition where I’m wondering if all this pain is worth it. I had a very comfortable 9-5 job in the same building as my adorable husband. And I’ve given it up for the opportunity to run a community centre based around coffee at unheard of hours. (Opening at 6am means a 4:45am alarm for this poor bugga.)

So, stick with me. I’ll treat you all with a Gloria Jean’s uniform picture sometime soon.

I know, I know

My life has turned a corner and there is no time for anything anymore. I'm writing this from Coffee University at Gloria Jean's HQ. We have 12 hour days in the classroom/kitchen with homework and assessment. This is 6 days a week and last week I did my prac in a GJ cafe working til 10.30pm. Poor bugga me?!!

It's quite stressful and I'm literally dreaming of coffee all night. We've had Geoff Westlake stay with us over the last w/e and Rob Cain last week. I'm feeling under the pump because I'm still wrapping up some projects for NCLS in the cracks...of which there are few.

It will be good once this month has passed. I'm learning all the intricacies of coffee and barista-ring and so this is good. I'm learning to think like Gloria and I know what's in a Very Vanilla Chiller.

The cafe will open in a month so after work we will be interviewing potential staff. Whoa! Gotta go and make a cappuccino for an assessment.

Cuppa anyone?

A new day

No chance of being labeled a power blogger with sporadicity like the last 2 weeks. Tomorrow I start Gloria Jean's University and come home and begin asking "What Would Gloria Do?". Not really looking forward to 4 weeks of training and indoctrination but maybe it will be just fine. It's half in GJHQ and half in a cafe somewhere. They scare you by saying you could get placement in a cafe that's a hour away and you may start at 5am or finish as late as 12 midnight. We'll see. Looking forward to going to school with Amanda - my new boss's wife and a good sort.

We've been up the coast for the weekend. I've been officially unemployed for two days now but that will all change at 8am tomorrow. Between a new job, a Forge internship/intensive, a trip to Perth to be a wedding photographer, 2 weekend camps, organising the production of a DVD, 2 sets of interstate visitors and opening a cafe - this month is pretty full. I think this blog will be a little neglected unless I'm really proud of my new uniform and want to show some pictures.
