This is a rant about how expensive groceries are. I’m pretty sure they have hiked up in price significantly over the last 2 years…or it’s just a Perth thing.
I’ve noticed that even when you just duck into the supermarket to get a few small things, the receipt is enough to get you a discount fuel voucher.
The reason is that nothing is a couple of bucks these days, everything’s $5. For example, I recently bought Band-aids thinking a small box would be in the vicinity of a gold coin. Wrong! It was a folded note. Spices, yoghurt, butter, toothbrushes and bread all require a fiver at the checkout. Thursday night I went to buy a few fresh beetroots until I realised they were $4 EACH - for some small ones.
So, I’m annoyed. I love the feeling of boycotting the major supermarkets and buying fruit and vege in Chinatown for half the price. I think by definition a boycott is inconvenient...no exception here.
